Watch me on "Look What I Did!" December 10 at 8 am ET/PT

Hello! I wanted to post about the fact that my episode of "Look What I Did!" is airing tomorrow morning on HGTV (I think for the fourth or fifth time).

So I was looking though my HGTV stuff and found a folder with all these pictures that the production company had required me to put on CD for the show.

They didn't end up using any of them, but they are kind of cool so I thought I would post them here. They wanted pictures of family vacations, family art adventures, before and after pictures of our house, and all kinds of stuff.

So here we go! Above you will see a young Julius Elvis Chaos Claringbold outside the Richard M. Nixon Memorial Outhouse and Library, which exists in a very special place on top of a mountain in Montana. I painted the psychedelic flower vase and window frame on one side of the building. Here's a view from the front:Also in the mountains of Montana there is a very cool treehouse, and here you can see me sitting up there, painting an acoustic guitar:
Working on same painting while being assaulted by moths at a campground somewhere in the Wild West:
Here's me and a very small Tangereen painting river rocks at a campground on the Snake River:
This next picture was taken at Littleville, a secret place in Montana where we have built a small village - Chuck was painting a scary skull on a rock in his "compound" (isn't Tangereen adorable with her little braids?):
Here is our family photo taken at "Sunset Bench" in Montana:
And here is the view from Sunset Bench:
This is me and Tangereen at the Oregon Coast:
Okay, on to the before and after pictures. BEFORE:

AFTER:

Here I am working on the ceiling:
...and here's Tangereen pretending to help me paint the ceiling:

Okay, if you want to see the rest and even see me demo-ing a mandala painting on a vinyl record, and hear Chuck talk about "a Michelangelo moment," you gotta tune in to the show tomorrow morning! If you do, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Tonight's the night!

This is what one of my murals looked like when it was illuminated by a big fancy light for our HGTV shoot two years ago.

Finally, TONIGHT, I will get to watch the show!

Please tune in to HGTV's "Look What I Did" tonight (Sept. 19) at 5:00 pm ET/PT.

This is a show about "homeowners who break the design mold." My segment is all about my master bedroom which is also my studio and home office. The walls and ceiling are all adorned with my original painted mandala designs. You can see more pictures on my website.
Here's Chuck posing with a couple of the guys from the crew - the lighting guy and the "grip." They made my husband wear a tie to help counteract all his tattoos. I don't think the collar fully covered up the one around his neck, but we'll see.
Above is our director, Renato, getting the camera set up in order to interview me in the kitchen. Renato was also the director for my "That's Clever!" shoot, which will air on HGTV some time this holiday season.

So tune in to my show! It's not every day that I invite the world into my bedroom...

Mother's Little Helpers

This is me in 1999 with my daughter Tangereen, proudly showing off the completed blue mural in my bedroom.

This week's Blog Carnival theme for the Etsy Bloggers team is "Your Crafting Helpers." Tangereen has definitely always been a big inspiration to me!

I designed the blue mural to be a frame around the mirror on the antique dressing table my parents gave me. Here is the same wall, as it looked when filled with lights for our TV shoot for HGTV's "Look What I Did" (don't forget to watch us on September 19 at 6:00 pm ET/PT!):
Tangereen is a very crafty child. She makes animals out of cardboard boxes and she invented her own style of "string paintings" where she weaves colored yarn through pegboard to make pictures and designs. Here we are painting river rocks at a campground on the Snake River, the summer before she started kindergarten:
Here's Tangereen now (she's going into 8th grade), in the backyard, painting a bunch of miniature coffee mugs she found at SCRAP:Now, onto Julius, who is 11 and is going into 6th grade. Julius is more of a graphic designer than a crafter. He has created many cool cartoon characters, and he is managing his own shop on Cafe Press called Julius Chaos. He also has his Dug & Burger comic books at Guapo Comics. The characters are all food. They live in a refrigerator and have great adventures. Here he is the day Guapo bought three copies of one of his books: And here he is drawing some Dug & Burger guys on my car!
I am really proud of my awesome kids and the many creative things they do. They help me just by being themselves!

Look What I Missed

The Hollywood crew that spent 12 hours at my house in September 2005

I just got back from a week of camping in a Yurt at the Oregon Coast. Checking my emails, I found a message from my old friends Miss Trish and Miss Katy in Springfield, Missouri. They were so glad to have caught my segment on Look What I Did!

I am so bummed! I have been waiting two years for this, and I totally missed it. I have been checking the HGTV website (that's the Home & Garden Network) regularly to search for my episode, and never found anything. I just checked a couple of weeks ago! Well, it is listed NOW - check this link - and my segment, "Psychedelic in Portland" aired on Monday night, June 25! This episode is about my master bedroom/studio/home office and how I turned it into a mandala-filled wonderland of psychedelic undulations.

The show apparently will air again on September 19. I am thrilled that it's been grouped with a "Rock and Roll Kitchen" and an "Edgar Allen Poe Wine Cellar." Sounds like a great show. I can't believe I missed it!

Please tune in to HGTV on September 19, at 6:00 PM ET/PT, to catch the second airing of this show. And don't forget, there is yet another upcoming episode of Look What I Did! featuring my kitchen (this one is not listed on the website yet) AND an episode of That's Clever! which will air some time this holiday season (I'll be demonstrating my Snowman Record Bowl). As soon as I know the airdates, I will post them here!

So how was my vacation? Most excellent, thank you. In between swimming, picnicking, beach-combing, and hiking into the deep, dark forest, I had some major attacks of creativity. I drew four new mandalas on vinyl records, experimented with making my first batch of ACEO's, and I started painting my car!
I still have a way to go. It's kind of funny, when I think about how I was painting our old Galaxie 500 back when I was pregnant with Tangereen 13 years ago - I don't think I've really changed much. Here's the Galaxie, circa 1994:
