Chuck's Backyard Mandala

Chuck did a bit of gardening this evening and created this beautiful mandala out of leaves, flowers, herbs, sticks, and branches in the large circle of dirt where we recently took down our pool. Isn't it pretty?

A New Clock

I created this design for a custom order and now you can have one too! I just listed the Doctor Seuss Clock in my shop this morning.

The colors are a bit different from the standard Eye Pop brights, but I think they look great, and the entire design has a Dr. Seuss feel that would be awesome in a child's room.

The clock features my original mandala design, hand painted using high quality acrylics in golden brown, leaf green, bright white, and lavender, and outlined with glossy black.

This earth-friendly clock was made from an upcycled 12" vinyl LP record.

Here are a few photos of the process:

I love how the outline makes the design really pop! Good thing I have a steady hand...

Bring on the Brightness

I've listed a bunch more bright new Eye Pop originals in my shop!
The painted record above became this Mandarin Orange Record Bowl:

The green and brown painted record became this Treehugger Record Bowl:

I've also added some colorful new cuffs like these two, called Jack of Hearts and Hot Pink, respectively:

Not to mention a whole slew of new Mandala Suncatchers, like these:

I made a new banner too! I had it "bubblized" by a shop that does that (makes your banners pop). It looks like this:
What do you think?

Click on over to my shop and take a look at all the eye popping goodness!

New mandalas in the works

I had quite a burst of creativity over the weekend, and made these seven new mandalas. These are all original designs hand painted onto recycled vinyl records. Three of them are getting ready to become clocks, and the other four will be bowls. The designs will also be used to make some new Mandala Suncatchers. You can see them for yourself this weekend at the Recycled Arts Festival in Vancouver, WA.

Popsicle Clocks!

I got new clock parts and the hands look like Popsicle sticks! I love it.

The above funkalicious photos are the 6 clocks that I shipped out today with the rest of the order for BuyGreen.com. I really dig the chunky new hands. I think that they look better and it's also easier to tell the time from a distance. The thinner hands could kind of get lost in the design - not so with these thick babies!

The really cool thing is that having to buy new clock parts means I finally ran out of my initial batch of 100 clock mechanisms that I bought three years ago! So, I have made 100 clocks. Wow.

Treasury time

Two gorgeous treasuries are currently featuring my work - Lollipop Lollipop and Mandalas Kaleidoscopes. Both of these treasuries also include work by Andrew Daniel who is one of my favorite artists on Etsy. Many thanks to makefuncrafts and flandersfield for creating these lovely lists.

Like a record, baby

I discovered some great slide show templates in Photobucket. Is this one not just absolutely perfect for my Mandala Records?

A couple of years ago I hung some of my work and led a mandala workshop for the Sustainable Community Convergence. They had a d.j. there who had a little fun spinning my records too.

Tonight's the night!

This is what one of my murals looked like when it was illuminated by a big fancy light for our HGTV shoot two years ago.

Finally, TONIGHT, I will get to watch the show!

Please tune in to HGTV's "Look What I Did" tonight (Sept. 19) at 5:00 pm ET/PT.

This is a show about "homeowners who break the design mold." My segment is all about my master bedroom which is also my studio and home office. The walls and ceiling are all adorned with my original painted mandala designs. You can see more pictures on my website.
Here's Chuck posing with a couple of the guys from the crew - the lighting guy and the "grip." They made my husband wear a tie to help counteract all his tattoos. I don't think the collar fully covered up the one around his neck, but we'll see.
Above is our director, Renato, getting the camera set up in order to interview me in the kitchen. Renato was also the director for my "That's Clever!" shoot, which will air on HGTV some time this holiday season.

So tune in to my show! It's not every day that I invite the world into my bedroom...

Mural approved!

Even though my kids have graduated from Duniway Elementary School, I am pleased to announce that I have been hired by Duniway's after school program to lead a group of students in creating a mandala mural this fall. I pitched my idea to the staff last week and was just given the green light.

The above picture is from a project I did with Tangereen's Campfire troupe when she was in fourth grade, for the Duniway Foundation Auction. I'm really looking forward to creating a large scale mandala to permanently adorn one of the best elementary schools in Portland. I will post photos of the project here as it progresses.

Check out my hot rod

This is the finished painting on the trunk of my car! (I showed some before pictures in an earlier post.)

Notice how I worked my business name and the Etsy bumper sticker in.

Let me know what you think and honk if you see me in traffic!
